Founded over 40 years ago in Detroit, Michigan, our business began as the dream of ‘Doc’ and his young bride, Sharon. Determined to build a business that would provide for his family, and driven by the spirit of an entrepreneur, NorthStar was born. Their “warehouse”, was the front porch of their modest starter home, which their dubious realtor called, “a haunted house” until they could afford a more suitable place to operate.

With the help of his mother, Lois, wife, Sharon, and a new hire, Garry, the business grew. Like any other small business, there were highs and lows, great successes and failures. Times changed, and the young owners learned to quickly adapt. As the business grew, the family grew. Soon, there were three children underfoot; John, Lauree, and Stacy.

Today, NorthStar is operated by Doc, Sharon and their son, John, a Marine whose leadership skills and determination make them very proud. Garry, the young man who joined the business in the early 1980’s is still a member of the NorthStar family and leads his own team of route drivers who service the Metro Detroit area with speed, efficiency, and a personal touch and a sense of genuine appreciation for their patronage.

Like any other business, success is measured not just on a balance sheet, but also in the intangible ways. Things like loyalty, reputation, and integrity. At NorthStar, we know we are only as good as our last phone call, delivery, or overall impression. We know our success is dependant on the good favor and goodwill of our customers. For that reason, our customers are more than “stops” on a route. Our customers are family.

Customized mats are a specialty item for us and came about when a customer wanted something special form us.
